Choose your solicitor wisely: SRA shuts down nationwide law firms
With the breaking news of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) closing down law practices whom they believe are operating dishonestly, we highlight the importance of choosing your solicitor wisely.
Earlier this week it was announced that the SRA, the regulator for solicitors and law firms in England and Wales, had closed another large law firm consolidator which operated under different names across the country.
The last comparable closure was back in 2015, which affected 15 offices at Blavo & Co.
It is vital that regulated solicitors and law firms follow Principles and a strict Code of Conduct set by the SRA, to ensure they operate with integrity in the interests of their clients and in the wide public interest.
By working to protect the general public, the SRA also closely supervise those whom they regulate and can take enforcement action if needed.
When choosing a solicitor, checking if a firm is regulated by the SRA is a great place to start. There are also many voluntary accreditation schemes that individuals or firms can join, which can tell you a lot about the service you are likely to experience.
