We’re proud to support Action for Brain Injury Week – May 2024
We are proud to support “Action for Brain Injury Week,” a dedicated campaign run by Headway UK that particularly highlights how brain injuries can disrupt plans, alter life ambitions, and even lose the sense of who you are.
Headway’s theme for this year’s Action for Brain Injury Week is “A Life Rewritten.” It aims to shed light on the daily adjustments and the life plans that need to be “rewritten.”
To raise awareness of Action for Brain Injury Week, we wanted to highlight what our team do on a daily basis and celebrate some of our achievements.
Our dedicated Court of Protection Team and Personal Injury Trust team
Our Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trust team has a wealth of experience: operating for almost 40 years, we consider that the team has been on the cutting edge of Mental Capacity Law since its inception. The firm started as Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence specialists and built up a successful reputation in the field.
Our dedicated team of specialists get to know our clients from the outset, building a relationship of trust. This is achieved by having regular face to face contact with our clients, their families and people involved in their life. We ensure to understand our clients’ abilities, individual needs, goals, wishes and views (and what these were prior to their accident). This is essential, to ensure the transition to having a professional assist with and manage their affairs is as smooth as possible and to ensure we are acting in our client’s best interests.
We believe this is one of the key reasons why we have supported so many of our Deputyship and Trust clients for several decades. This shows that we are being transparent and keeping our clients informed, showing that communicating with them on a regular basis is our priority.
We have assisted our clients through several significant milestones in their life by guiding them on how best to use their finances and maximise their income to enhance their quality of life.
In this blog, we are proud to share some of our outcomes that we have achieved but are not limited to:
- Helping clients to design and adapt their property to meet their needs.
- Maximising our client’s income by making applications to relevant authorities to ensure that they are eligible, for example, where their care and support needs are funded through Local Authorities or the NHS. We have successfully challenged the NHS and Local Authorities’ decisions to ensure our clients receive the highest quality, care, and support.
- Maximising our client’s recovery via commissioning additional therapy sessions and specialist equipment that are not provided through the NHS.
- Promoting the independence of our clients by making arrangements for them to receive care and support at their own home from people they trust and choose to work with.
- Ensuring our clients are at the centre of any decision making and are actively involved, for example, engaging them in the care staff recruitment process and staff interviews if appropriate.
- Working with families to ensure they are supported if they are providing care to our clients. We ensure that family members receive a Family Care Payment where appropriate.
