Things to consider when choosing a Medical Negligence Solicitor

Medical negligence

If you are thinking of making a claim for Medical Negligence, sometimes known as Clinical Negligence, it is advisable to appoint a solicitor to act for you – but what do you need to consider when choosing a solicitor to act for you?

Do your own research

Choosing the right solicitor can be a daunting experience, especially when there are so many to choose from.

Recommendations are usually a good way to find out what it is like working with a particular solicitor. Personal recommendations from family or friends are often a good starting point. However, you should make sure that the recommendation suits your personal needs, as your legal matter may be very different to that of your contact’s.

Personal recommendations are obviously of great value, but you should also think about carrying out your own research, and searching on the internet is probably the most efficient way to do this. You should think about your search criteria such as the location of the firms and whether they are specialists in medical negligence law.

Experience and expertise

Medical Negligence is a highly specialised area and a firm of solicitors that has a dedicated Medical Negligence team or department should be able to offer you good advice and service.

When looking at a particular firm’s website, check that the firm has solicitors accredited to one or more of the three key medical negligence panels, APIL, AvMA or the Law Society.

First interview

It’s not too late to change your mind! It is important that you feel comfortable with your solicitor and confident in their advice. Medical Negligence cases take a long time to resolve and so it is important that you develop a working rapport with your solicitor.

Who will carry out the day to day conduct of your case? Are they approachable and readily available to deal with any queries you may have about your case on a day to day basis?

It is important that you choose a firm that you can expect to have a good working relationship with and the firm that you choose should recognise this from the outset.

Choosing a Medical Negligence solicitor requires research and thought. At Osborne Morris & Morgan, we have a dedicated Medical Negligence team with experienced specialist lawyers who will be happy to speak with you and answer any queries.
