Tell us a bit about yourself and your background
I have two young children so, at the moment my life revolves around their schedules! Here at OM&M, flexible and agile working is supported. They really understand that not one size fits all when it comes to working hours.
I love spending time with my family and friends and aside from my home life, love to travel to new places and am a huge foodie!
What inspired you to start a career in Court of Protection and Personal Injury Trusts?
Seeing the positive impact upon lives of our clients that we, as legal professionals, can make. Every client brings something new to the job which keeps my role enjoyable.
What stood out to you about OM&M when applying for opportunities?
It was important to me to join a firm that aligned with my values and wanted to make a positive difference. OM&M does just that. I like that it’s a modern and forward-thinking firm, who does alot for the local community and charities, full of friendly people and is always open to new and innovative ideas and initiatives.
What do you enjoy most about working at OM&M?
I received support from day one from a high-quality talented team. The firm is very non-hierarchical, and everyone feels they have a voice, irrespective of grade. There is also opportunity to get involved in a broader range of work.
Additionally, my team do great quality work and I have clients that mean the world to me.
What is the culture like at OM&M?
We are a friendly firm, and everyone is a team player. We, as a collective, are passionate about what we do and are not afraid to make positive changes.
What single factor was the most important when you chose to join OM&M?
Something that I think is unique to the culture here, is that I’m given the space to be able to run my own team in the way that I want and with the full support of the management behind me.
What is a “normal day” like in your role?
Throughout the day I receive requests from the team in respect of monetary decisions that need to be made. I will check through my client’s investments and sign off Reports that need to be sent off to Court.
The other half of my day is spent on developing and improving the department, looking at new ways to do things and ensuring that everyone is happy.
What advice would you give someone looking to start a career in Court of Protection or Personal Injury Trusts?
Don’t give up! The world is your oyster so embrace any opportunities that come your way. Additionally, ask as many questions as possible – you’re fed so much information so don’t be afraid to stand up and speak out to find out more or clarify something.
It took me a while to gain the relevant experience before I qualified, but all experiences have made me the solicitor that I am today.
What would you be if you weren’t a solicitor?
A journalist. (You can find all of her well written and informative articles on Sheena’s author archive page).
