Laura Everitt: A day in the life of a Trusts Solicitor

Trusts solicitor
Trusts solicitor, Laura Everitt, shares what a typical day might involve for her

Laura Everitt shares with us, her day, in the life as a member of the Trusts team at Osborne Morris & Morgan.

Dealing with Trust Law is a specialised area and one which I really enjoy. I enjoy speaking with clients and helping them understand what a Trust is and how it can help their particular circumstances.

Below is an example of what a typical day might look like for me;

8:30am – A cup of tea is always the first port of call. Then a look through my calendar to remind myself of the appointments I have planned for the day.

9am – A read through my emails is next on the agenda – to see what has been sent over night. I often have clients who email me with payment requests from their Trust funds which I need to carefully consider.

10am – The day’s post is handed to me and I prioritise what needs to be done. From this, I often then create a list of jobs for the day.

11am – A review meeting with my colleague to discuss the Trust accounts and Tax returns and make sure we are all up-to-date. We try to be as pro-active as possible.

12pm – I will speak with new clients discussing their requirements and existing clients all throughout the morning.

1pm – Lunch time. I normally pop over to our local sandwich shop and get some fresh air, which helps to make the afternoon productive.

 2pm – Time to work on new client enquiries and send out their initial information packs to them.

3pm – I need time to concentrate – as I have a new Trust Deed to draft.

4pm – One of the existing Trustees on a matter would like to retire so I need to draft a Deed of retirement and appointment, as a new Trustee is being appointed in their place.

4:30pm – I need to sign all of my post and make sure it is ready for the admin team to collect.

5pm – I have another quick look through my emails, responding to any that I can answer to straight away.

5:30pm – A quick review of my ‘to do’ list and some satisfying ticks gives me a sense of satisfaction before it’s home time.

As well as all of the above I have training courses, department meetings and networking events to keep me busy.

Here at Osborne Morris & Morgan, we have a team of award-winning Trusts specialists who are able to listen to your requirements and draft a Trust to suit your needs.  Speak to our specialist Trusts team today on 01525 378177, or you can contact us online.
