Businessman Scot Young found dead
Businessman Scot Young, 52 has been found dead after falling 4 storeys from the window of his £3m rented flat in Marylebone earlier this week. The death is not being treated as suspicious.
Young, a bankrupt property tycoon recently came to the end of a protracted and high profile divorce battle and was jailed for 6 months in January 2013, for failing to provide the Court with his financial details.
His ex-wife, was eventually awarded £20m as part of the settlement following a 6 year Court battle which has been described as one of the most expensive in England.
When the couple separated in 2006, Mr Young had reportedly built up an estimated £400m fortune, comprising a 9 bedroom Oxfordshire mansion and a £6m Florida Beach House.
As part of the proceedings, Mr Young was ordered to pay his ex-wife £27,500 per month in maintenance, to cover her rent and school fees for their daughters. Eventually, he claimed that his business ventures had collapsed leaving him unable to pay the on-going maintenance, with the result that his ex-wife alleged that he had wildly misrepresented the true state of his financial affairs.
Ultimately, Judge Mr Justice Moor assessed Mr Young as being worth £40m with his ex-wife being entitled to half. The Judge speculated that whilst Mrs Young claimed her ex-husband was worth ‘billions’ he felt that her estimates of his worth were ‘fanciful’.
